How often should you get your boiler serviced?
You should have your boiler serviced once a year, to make sure it’s functioning correctly and that you don’t have any water or gas leaks.
What other factors might prompt a service?
- It’s been 12 months since the last service
- You are selling your house
- You have recently moved house, especially if you didn’t get a record of previous services from the seller
- If the efficiency of your boiler seems to be deteriorating
Who can service your boiler?
By law, only Gas Safe registered engineers can service your boiler. If you are unsure of your engineer’s qualifications, look them up on the Gas Safe Register or ask to see their identification.
What are the benefits of regular servicing?
- It saves lives. Faulty boilers can be extremely dangerous. The government estimates that carbon monoxide poisoning sends 4,000 people to A&E every year. As part of the service, any leaks or weak points will be identified and fixed.
- An efficient boiler reduces your fuel bills. Regular servicing will ensure that your boiler is running as efficiently as possible โ which will save on energy and more importantly, bills.
- Save money on boiler repairs. Annual servicing will make sure that your boiler is working correctly. Any minor issues will be fixed as part of the service. If left unrepaired, these minor issues can cause serious malfunctions later on, which can prove more costly to fix.
- Make sure your insurance is valid. Boiler warranties and insurance policies require annual services to take place in order to meet the policy requirements.
- Comply with the Law. If youโre a business, you are legally obliged to keep any gas, LPG and oil appliances and installations fully maintained and safe to use and you must be able to provide a Gas Safe certificate for gas boilers.
